Bailiwick: JD MFWD axle seal leaks???

West Central Iowa

Information technology seems as nosotros are seeing an excessive amount of failure of the outer axle shaft seal (current Deere # RE208256) on the Deere built MFWD axle as used in the very late l, 55, lx and 8000 serial tractors. This is the seal that is used with the retrofit seal kit. The seal that leaks is the bellows style seal that sits to outside of the u-joint and seals the axle drive shaft/u-joint where it comes out of the planetary hub. The failure is ever a torn bellows on the seal. We are using the correct JD seal installation tool, along with the process spelled out in the seal kit installation manual. We call back JD has a problem with this seal, equally they have inverse the part number numerous times in the last 5 years and our local dealer always has a lot of these seals in stock.

Anyone else seeing this same problem and accept any thoughts on this?

Thank you!

We have had jd put in at to the lowest degree five seals in the final 10 years on the aforementioned side on our 8400, they even ruined an axle quill and scuffed upward the bulldoze shaft in the beam tube. So yes we have had some problems with the seals, I think some of it is due to the installer personally.

Yep, put in the update package and thought that would be the stop of problem, just I see 1 side is leaking again after probably a yr of lite use. (4255) So I am broken-hearted to come across more on this subject. Somebody said the break in is the problem, said yous are supposed to drive ane mph for an hour to interruption them in or something like that, but I doubted that theory. pirlbeck

I have installed several of these on our tractors and had alot of issues. I besides have the deere tool for installing them. I accept started non driving them all the way till the tool stops for I think that it sets them a piddling to deep. I have had much better luck doing that. Republic of chad H

Our dealer recommended an hr or more at less than v mph. One thing that will forever aid seal life is if it is extremely hot...like 90 degrees or more, keep the speed down to 15 mph or so. You lot get a 95-100 degree day and wind it up to 20+ mph and y'all're certain to have oil within one of the wheels. We haven't had a lot of trouble, but don't do much roading either. Only have the 4255 with that style front end end now. 7520 has been trouble free at 5k hours.

My dealer fabricated me purchase new shafts with the new seals, in 2000 hours of use since, no leaks. I was skeptical, simply now that I read this thread, I am a believer. cr39

On a 4760, had local car store replace the seal. I approximate they didn't do information technology right and leaked in less than a twelvemonth. Took it to J.D. dealer, fixed it and noticed it looks similar it is weeping out oil, only non really leaking. cr39

On a 4760, had local machine store supercede the seal. I guess they didn't do information technology right and leaked in less than a year. Took information technology to J.D. dealer, stock-still information technology and noticed it looks like it is weeping out oil, only not actually leaking.
